5 minutes walk from University of Northumbria

Situated in the North East of England under the watchful eye of Anthony Gormley’s magnificent sculpture, Angel of the North, Newcastle is home to two excellent universities – Newcastle University and the University of Northumbria. Positioned on the River Tyne, traversed by seven iconic bridges, Newcastle is a small city with a big student vibe and a well-deserved reputation for its exuberant nightlife and a generous array of cafes, bars, clubs and restaurants.

Always something to do

With a good selection of shops in the city centre, the vast Metro Centre with its IMAX cinema and big brand stores in nearby Gateshead, the Sage Concert Hall and the St James Park Stadium (home of Newcastle United FC and a venue for the 2015 Rugby World Cup) there’s always something going on in this buzzing city whose residents are renowned for their positive and friendly outlook.

A vibrant student community

Portland Green Student Village sits right in the heart of Newcastle – only a 15 minute walk away from Newcastle University and a mere stone’s throw from the University of Northumbria – so you’ll be hard pressed to find a more convenient location. Living in the Student Village allows you to get to and from your lectures with ease and gives you the added peace of mind that getting home from a night out will be both quick and safe.

Getting around

Newcastle is a relatively small city and has a great selection of cycle routes around the town centre so you’ll find the secure bike racks in the courtyards of Portland Green very handy if this is your preferred mode of transport. The Student Village is close to major bus routes as well as Newcastle’s Metro rail line and there’s a Metro link direct to Newcastle Airport from the city centre which only takes about 10 minutes. Newcastle is also located on the main East Coast train line with regular services between London and Scotland.
